The term animal has its origin from the Latin word animalis which means one who has breath. This word is usually applied for the non-human members of the Kingdom Animalia in animal taxonomy. However, the closer relatives of humans like mammals (having mammary glands) have been included in this term.
An area or structure that protects animals from adverse conditions is called an animal shelter. Different kinds of animals need different types of shelters. Different kinds of animals and their shelters are mentioned here.

All those processes that maintain the body of an organism collectively are called as life processes. These processes principally include Nutrition, Respiration, Internal Transport, and Excretion. Some other processes of life like control and coordination, Reproduction, Heredity and Evolution etc. are essentially found in living beings but they are not directly related to processes of life. Hence, these may or may not be regarded as life processes
The gap between the rich and the poor has increased due to population growth. The rich people are exploiting more resources than poor people. Malnutrition is one of the most common effects of these problems. The poorest people in developing countries do not get adequate calories to develop their health properly.
Consumers too utilize some energy in their metabolic processes. Under these conditions some energy escapes away in the form of their body heat and some energy is wasted through excretory matter from their bodies. The rest of the energy goes into the atmosphere when top consumer dies and its body is decomposed.
Human activities have never been friendly to environment. The remains of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa signify that the civilization ended due to desertification which might had been caused by large scale deforestation. Still today impacts of such human activities have started appearing. Hence it is essential that we manage our natural resources properly.

It is due to frequent oil spills that sea otters, many sea birds, whales and many other species of the marine environment have become endangered. The oil spill damages fisheries and Mari culture, and causes serious economic losses to the local public and the governments.
