Modern development has caused a number of environmental problems at local, regional, national and international levels. Global Climate Change, depletion of ozone layer, increasing inequality, reduction in the means of livelihood for poor, scarcity of food, increasing number of disasters, extinction of species, falling underground water table etc. are some of the major environmental problems created by modern unsustainable development. These problems are challenging the existence of human race on this planet.
Environment may be defined as ‘Complete range of various sets of external conditions comprising- physical, biological, and for human beings- cultural, economic and political conditions; in which human beings and other life forms exist in continuous interactions among themselves.
The dry weight of organic matter produced by plants, their derivatives and wastes are called as BIOMASS. The biomass includes crop residues, plant parts, body parts of dead animals and animal wastes. As biomass is created due to photosynthesis by plants, so energy from biomass or bio wastes is regarded as another form of solar energy.
Cyclones are extremely disastrous hazards that originate in seawater. These are usually followed by rains and wind of very high speed.In fact, these are atmospheric disasters that occur mainly in coastal areas like coastal regions of Bangla Desh and India.
Most animals of the same kind have same body parts. But their body parts differ in size, shape, colour and functions.
The population explosions of earlier and present days have already caused and are still causing serious impacts on the global environment. As for the biological environment, the human population has stressed most biological systems, comprising flora and fauna, as well as biological diversity.
Parental traits are transferred from one generation to other generation by means of chromosomes, DNA, or Genes.
Land resources are used for a variety of purposes which may include organic agriculture, reforestation, water resource management and eco-tourism projects. In all these areas land use is needed to be sustainable.
