Man is surrounded by various life forms, forces and conditions- both physical and biological. Sunlight, land, air and water form physical conditions whereas all the plants, animals, and microorganisms form biological conditions.
Though there are two basic types of leaves of monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants, we observe immense diversities in their arrangements, sizes, and shapes.
Some leaves are very short, as short as they cannot be seen through naked eyes where as there are big broad leaves that can form many umbrellas for small children.
What is the importance of DNA copying in reproduction?
Some reports regarding increasing bird trade in endangered species that were published recently in some news papers are matters of concern not alone for the lovers of environment and wildlife but for common public as well.
According to their physical make up, there are basically two types of animals- Vertebrates and invertebrates. Invertebrates are those animals that don’t have a vertebral column or backbone. On the other hand, Vertebrates are those animals who have a vertebral column or the back bone.
An incident of invasion by a living species into entirely new habitat thereby threatening the existence of native species is called as bioinvasion or Biological Invasion.
Ozone absorbs ultraviolet radiations so that much of it is never allowed to reach to the earth surface. The protective umbrella of ozone layer in the stratosphere protects the earth from harmful ultraviolet radiations. Ozone plays an important role in the biology and climatology on the earth’s environment. It filters out all the radiations that remain below 3000Å. Radiations below this wavelength are biologically harmful. Hence any depletion of ozone layer is sure to exert catastrophic impacts on life in the biosphere.
Different activities may generate waste which may be solid or liquid. The quality of both solid and liquid wastes is increasing and if the wastes are disposed in an uncontrolled manner these may cause adverse impact on public health and environment. Hence these wastes need to be managed efficiently so as to safeguard public health and environment.
Our natural resources are known to have some specific qualities of their own. These qualities are known as natural qualities. It is due to specific natural qualities that different natural resources have been useful to us and to the whole biosphere. But now, the condition has changed considerably. Most of our natural resources like air, water and soil have gone bad due to pollution of different types. What is pollution?
Soil is the loose material that covers the land surface of the earth, supports the growth of plants and acts as a habitat for numerous organisms.
